Robo Vampire: Hopping Taoist Vampire Monks and Some Thai Movie on the Side

With a premise like that, I should not feel like there is a need to rush writing this review before this hotel shift ends. How can you forget that? If anything, Amazon should contact me in regards to writing their Prime Video movie descriptions. After all, Walmart let me do their groceries for two years.

I am getting ready for a killer week. Close the retailer, open the retailer. Evening shift at the hotel, open the retailer (an hour earlier). Evening shift at the hotel, open the retailer. Tuesday will be wrestling video games and completing "American Gods." I am working Wednesday and Thursday, and then heading up to catch my first AAW show of the year on Friday. Then I gotta make it back in time to open the retailer the next day. Just try to will the idea that there will not be an eight o'clock meeting Saturday morning on top of all this.

So, I now realize that the next blog will have to be a review of the wrestling. It is not right to let something that hot simmer. Then again, publishing this movie review instead will extend the life of AAW's Never Say Die.

It can be fun planning for the future, at least one that you have under control. The rest is just ignorant customers and loud and incompetent guests. I could romanticize it with the battle of loved ones and personal passion, but things would be simpler with lousy Halloween costumes portraying robots and gorilla masks portraying vampires...so you would think.

Robo Vampire

It looks like the U.S. is at least making strides against the drug trade in Southeast Asia's Golden Triangle. Their patrols are so effective that the top exporter has turned to a Taoist priest to resurrect an army of vampires to counter them. After the priest makes a pact with the ghost of his premier vampire beast's lover, he seems unstoppable. Unbeknownst to them, the Americans have their own methods of resurrection.

Death will not keep top agent Tom Wilde down. With some simple welding, he is revived as the Robo Warrior, something that does not play by the rules of Chinese black magic. Perhaps this is why the main supplier has kidnapped Sophie, an American agent whose cover has just been blown.

Stretched thin, the Yanks have assigned the rescue to Thai mercenaries. Hopefully that gamble will pay off. Otherwise, all of the secrets of the Robo Warrior will be exposed.

The last three sentences of my "Robo Vampire" plot synopsis required more thought than any placed in the production of this film. This 1988 release was a quick turnaround rip off of "Robocop" but without the class that Italian directors provide. When the quality of the film stock immediately reminds you of a Rifftrax or MST3K short, you know you should not watch this without a fifth of whiskey and robot friends. Sadly, my Tom Servo tattoo remained silent through this presentation.

Maybe I am selling my screenplay for "Main Event of the Dead" at too high a level. I may have to call it a Q-Movie instead of a B-Movie Zom Com. Ask for a treatment by emailing russthebus07@gmail.com.

The last statement comes from Godfrey Ho's film being called a Z-Movie. There is such a discrepancy in quality, I better pick a different letter. This film makes the idea of filming in portrait seem okay. To try and ensure that someone will enjoy this, Ho more than likely only shot 45 minutes of robot and vampire stuff and attached a Thai Commando movie to pad out the runtime. This causes the film to quit being good bad and just be all bad as you are pulled away from the premise that you clicked on to watch something that would only be interesting if it was exploitative foreign cinema. No abuse of women or graphic violence, no value to a scum aficionado like me.

It is sad that Ho decided to take this route because the cheap effects that feature no concept about how any weapon works is constantly hilarious. The Robo Warrior story already tries to be something for everybody. You have the gore of vampires ripping out a throat or too. You have the "lady ghost" fighting in completely sheer white "robes". The vampires can only hop as conveyance, so no one will be scared from the theater. You have a slapstick scene when you realize that vampires can get hyped up on sugar, so you better keep them neck deep in heroin for storage purposes.

When you use firecrackers and bottle rockets instead of scribs, you cannot change it up for half the film with Cannon like action. You have not earned it and by the first cut to the Thai movie, the audience knows they do not want it. We were too busy enjoying the nonsensical cuts, why would we want this feature to suddenly make any sense?

"Robo Vampire" could have been and enjoyable mess, but chose to be a monotonous chore. There is no Wikipedia page for this film, but after enough Google searches, I had found there to be two "sequels". As a lover of the concept of "so bad it is good", I am considering tracking them down in hope that Godfrey Ho could nail this down once. With that said, leave it to me because you should not object yourself to watch a Break.com video that will more than likely become a train accident.

If your blissful ignorance can be stolen by "Robo Vampire", how can you trust Ho to not go after your soul with his other works? His techniques are the only vampires of his that makes sense.

FanExpo Chicago was lacking plentiful after hour activities, so after night two of the convention, CatBusRuss and his big sister decided to check out Greta Gerwig’s take on Mattel’s toy icon, “Barbie”.

This is a fun recording since it it leaves us with a “Siskel & Ebert” feel. The two siblings get to focus on how this fun, educational takedown of the patriarchy left them feeling. If that is not enough embracing of the joy of motion pictures, our hosts get to argue about how the end of 2023 movies look and will end up.

"Ninety For Chill: The #Podcast with @CatBusRuss" offers the world the ultimate questionable quadruple feature. If it was between 70 and 100 minutes in length and directed by Ken Russell during the '80s, it is here. CatBusRuss's weekend binge features the body horror classic "Altered States", Russell's reimaginings of 19th century British literature in "Gothic" and "Salome's Last Dance", and Hugh Grant and Peter Capaldi battle with a snake vampiress in "The Lair of the White Worm".

Weird things happen when our host gets ghosted. Aside from watching Ken Russell's "Altered States" to clear up his Netflix DVD queue before the service ends, CatBusRuss did not have much of a plan for what this week's episode would be about. Presuming that he would have a date on his day off, the best he thought he could do was watch "Lisztomania" to provide the audience with the entire range of craziness the director of "Tommy" had to offer.

Nothing seems to be working out for CatBusRuss. He is doing a lot better mentally, but that maybe out of spite. The day after he finished producing "Toss Back Tuesday: Jim Carrey Under 100 Minutes", the podcast scheduling plans were all screwed up. "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was the big Blu-Ray release for June 6, 2023. Its theatrical run was released the week prior to the April movie CatBus wanted to see the most, Nicolas Cage starring as Dracula in "Renfield", so the resources our host used to find out that the physical release date of the Nicholas Hoult film was going to be a week after the billion-dollar cartoon seemed correct. You can only imagine his dismay when he started ringing out customers who brough up the vampire disc along side the plumber flick.

Russ did get around to seeing the movie when it was still in theaters. This would have been in its third week of release. As noted in "Nicolas Cage & The Unbearable Weight of Massive Filmography", our host ended up dealing with unexpected cancellations of this feature during its second weekend. He decided to sit on the review he recorded from the parking lot. Being the only other person in the cinema for the flick, expecting the physical release to be just a couple of weeks away seemed like a fair assumption. Sadly, Comcast/Universal seemed to do nothing but fumble in their efforts to make this feature profitable. Fortunately, "NinetyForChill: The #Podcast" is going to make an effort to further make this feature relevant.

Allow me to get out of third-person. Happy Prof. Shurtleff of Illinois Central College? I (CatBusRuss) will try not to make so much light of violent death in this summation. This is my declaration of changing perspective.

Things are looking up for me. Next week, I will be in England with my dad to watch the Cubs beat up on the Cardinals (I really need to make the time to get up to Wrigley for a game this year. I also need to follow what is going on at The Vick and The Metro as well.). Next week's podcast is just editing away from completion. If I stay productive in my off time (Why the hell am I doing laundry right now? Upgrading my PS5 was one thing.), an episode should be released while I am on the other side of the pond. It also helps to have the Podbean feed to move episodes from when I have an existential crisis.

I am almost at the point that I am thinking about begging for support with Patreon. No bonuses for anybody, just trying to see if my existence is appreciated. In other words, there have been some past podcast guests that I cannot rely on.

Last week was supposed to have a guest per my schedule. No one offered, so I tried to rely on someone who I had hoped would understand my situation. That turned out not to be the case, just the personality.

Since they are one of my oldest friends (Please pardon the passive aggressiveness.), it left me thinking about my current situation. I have a fair amount of debt (I would rather enjoy adulthood until my inevitable prostate cancer diagnosis.). Can I survive without familiar support? Yes. Knowing that I have family who does not want me hustling anymore than I do should be great. But what are they getting in return on their investment.

It has been nearly two decades of this existence. I have been spending all of adulthood trying to succeed at my passions. Too bad no one gives a shit about these. Why am I being supported if I am not doing what they want me to pursue? Am I to just grow up and accept making money is the only purpose of adulthood? If others are (seem) happy doing this, am I fucked up for not? Am I just a fuck up?

And of course I am not comfortable enough with my latest group of friends to be this open about my dealings. That sucks. If I were, Skimble would have probably gotten a wake.

I am still determined to keep up the podcast, but the past week was tough. Unless guests want to stay up late, Sundays are the only day that I am certain can be made for podcasting. With that said, if you have a movie or topic that you want to chat about, send an email to russthebus07@gmail.com.

NinetyForChill: The #Podcast: The Lost Boys with @CouchManBakes

 NinetyForChill.com: The #Podcast

Episode 105: The Lost Boys with @CouchManBakes.

Eva Never Grows Old, Never Dies

The Lost Boys with @CouchManBakes

Andrew Tiede and CatBusRuss investigate what maybe the spiritual sequel to "The Goonies", Joel Schumacher's "The Lost Boys". With this rewatch, our host was actually intrigued by ThePoeticCritic's opinion that this feature is nothing more than rose...should we say...blood-tinted nostalgia. Thankfully, this week's guest reminded CatBus the national treasure that is Timmy Cappello. These two eighties kids always have a ball watching this vampire feature, and throw in their parallel paths to their forties, we get some fun Cubs and wrestling themed tangents to accompany the blood sucking fun.

Allow me to get out of third-person. Happy Prof. Shurtleff of Illinois Central College? I (CM Darth) will try not to make so much light of violent death in this summation. This is my declaration of changing perspective.

It was a busy weekend for the podcast. With a management shake up, I had to work over the weekend, but still managed to get two recording in on Sunday. This is coming off a trivia and goth night that resulted in my nearly destroying my left knee. Alcohol was obviously involved for that to occur. There were two days to recover, but four hours of podcasting means a lot more booze. Jeppson's Malort will one day sponsor me.

With the mention of Malort, we do bring up a lot of masochism in regards to our Cubs fandom and wrestling stories. Andrew and I discuss the best Cubs logos and tattoos and the Rhodes's family recent success. And how that success maybe karma correcting the world after my Terry Funk to Dustin stinkface tale.

Also when it comes to the Cubs pain, the fire sale and the Bartman incident are discussed. It leads to a conversation about Bernie Mac (and Richard Pryor) and learning how watching "The Kings of Comedy" on the opening weekend does not give one's vocabulary any flexibility. That is a weird tangent in a movie that features no minorities in it.

I may have suggested this movie is really for the fans of Richard Donner's "The Goonies" while Andrew stands by this feature being a treasure of the eighties. The love for Timmy Cappello we expressed may have led me to embrace the Couchman's argument. It also lets us celebrate seeming constant bat shit expressions that Joel Schumacher demands his features have.

Officially, we do not visit "Ally's Accessories Shop on Etsy's Trash Feature Revue", but in the event that I could not nail down this recording, I revisited the low-budget, Canadian horror-comedy, "Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter". This is a fun feature that is nearly perfect for what it is. It hits the mark so well, some, or at least I, may suggest that it is technically a better movie than "The Lost Boys".

Perhaps I am letting ThePoeticCritic's Letterboxd have too much influence over me. Does Andrew Tiede talk me into keeping the premier story of the Coreys as a four-star feature? Am I just trying to balance out my Letterboxd rating curve? With my efforts to prepare to move to a new podcast platform, I hope to get this all straightened out. Thanks for coming on this journey.

Follow me on Twitter @catbusruss. If you want to be on the show, contact me on Twitter or send an email to russthebus07@gmail.com. All we need is a theme, movie, director, or actor and a focus on sub 100-minute material. As long as the credits start before the 1:39:59 mark on the runtime bar, the movie qualifies.

NinetyForChill: The #Podcast - Three Decades of Michael Biehn

NinetyForChill.com: The #Podcast

Episode 87: 3 Decades of Michael Biehn (If only I could some how incorporate Eva's toe beans.).

I am waiting for Skimble's super spy persona

Three Decades of Michael Biehn - The Insatiable, Timebomb, The Victim

September 27, 2022

Michael Biehn should be as highly regarded as great character actors like Bill Paxton, but for whatever reason, his work seems to be more difficult to find. The man's characters handles themselves better in James Cameron movies that Mr. Game Over Man, so he deserves a lot more respect. Cool Movies Darth is a fan, and is quick to rent any feature, regardless of budget, that Mr. Biehn has acted in. Thus, NinetyForChill's host revisited some of these rentals.

Allow me to get out of third-person. Happy Prof. Shurtleff of Illinois Central College? I (CM Darth) will try not to make so much light of violent death in this summation. This is my declaration of changing perspective.

I did my damnedest to set up a multiple guest panel to discuss Kevin Smith's filmography. Wildfires in California kept one guest from being able to commit to a panel. A podcast regular's work schedule changed without any notification. Another past guest did their best to come through at the last minute, but life happens for other people. This was not the fall out that I needed after my short term therapy program had concluded.

Fortunately, I have three stacks of sub 100-minute movies that star the same actor. One stack is dedicated to Sean Bean. Another consists of Gary Daniels movies. The third is devoted to Michael Biehn.

There are also two extra movies in the Biehn stack, but one belongs to Ally's Accessories Shop on Etsy's Trash Feature Revue while the other only features Biehn in a smaller supporting role. One of the features that will be discussed has him as the third lead, so I did not want to feature anything lesser that that on this episode.

For this episode, I had seen all of the features...mostly. "Timebomb" is one I had never seen from start to finish. As for "The Insatiable" and "The Victim", it has probably been 10 years since I watched either of them. 10 years ago, my focus was on appreciating low budget movies since I had aspirations to make my own, "Main Event of the Dead" (If you have means of advancing the feature to a crowd-funding stage or if you would like a script treatment, send an email to russthebus07@gmail.com). Am I still as forgiving as I was then?

I only own one of these films, "The Insatiable". Vampire "drama" is something that I have been fascinated with since I saw "Interview with the Vampire". Any chance to see these monsters as human is one that I will take. After falling into "The Boondock Saints" fandom, there was a subconscious desire to help further the career of Sean Patrick Flannery. Since this "horror" movie billed Michael Biehn, how could this feature not be worthwhile.

And then comes the surprise of it being a comedy. ThinkFilm is notorious for misleading trailers and box art. I would have featured the audio of the video above to describe the film on this episode, but it was clearly edited to better sell the film by other fans of it.

Episode 73: Ally Presents: Puppets, Emo Vampires, and Christian Metaphors (Either scary by intent or scary by quality).

Eva knows these movies are worth associating her visage with.

Ally Presents: Puppets, Emo Vampires, and Christian Metaphors

June 21, 2022

NinetyForChill.com returns to Ally's Accessories Shop on Etsy's Trash Feature Revue to provide you with opinions on DVDs whose values will not be affected by inflation. Cool Movies Darth takes us on a journey of traditional horror, no budget indies, and whatever Dark Castle Entertainment claims to be scary. This episode addresses the Full Moon Features' classic "Puppet Master", a vampire-fad character study in "Quench", the too vulgar for PureFlix "The Reaping", and a low definition attempt to cross Faust with Palahniuk in "Shadow Hours".

Allow me to get out of third-person. Happy Prof. Shurtleff of Illinois Central College? I (CM Darth) will try not to make so much light of violent death in this summation. This is my declaration of changing perspective.

I am still adjusting to the concept of a guest every other week. There are fears that the bloom has worn off this rose of a podcast. People have lives, so no time to dedicate one's self to creative endeavors. Perhaps there are folks who just want to add being on the show as a resume builder. At least I know people are getting something out of the podcast.

The blame for my issues adjusting to listening to solely my voice is YouTube. After inadvertently getting the Cool Movies Darth Channel verified, there is no pressure to get my shorter videos under the 15-minute ceiling. With wanting to provide close to a half hour of content at the very least per week, episodes have to be over 22 minutes (TV standards). Thus, I need to put more movies into the solo shows.

Because of the need for movies, I am running through the alphabet a lot faster than I did last year. Ally's Accessories Shop on Etsy Trash Feature Revue will be wrapped up next month at this rate. It was a stressful but rewarding exercise to determine how to come up with themed episodes in its stead. Still, there is disappointment that I cannot rally three guests a month.

Do I need to just go out and ask for a permanent co-host? That maybe easier than getting a girlfriend.

Pardon me for not introducing "Puppet Master" before I went through that head trip. The trailer above for "Quench" just fit the mood of that rant better. That film may just hit me in the right spots because of similarities in my life to the story. It is a flick about looking for a place to belong. I am just glad I was too affluent to get into the "Twilight" fad despite my Hot Topic Credit Card.

"Puppet Master" was a film I was excited to see because it is what trash features are suppose to be. The premise of sentient, vengeful puppets on a low budget just promises fun. Was it? It could have been better, but I am ready for "Puppet Master 2". We may end up with an episode dedicated to the franchise because Ally bought me a nine-movie pack (12 if you count the "Killjoy" movies).

So we have a movie that I wanted to see and a film that I was a fan of 12 years prior. This episode is a blast to the past because the letter R was represented by Dark Castle Entertainment's "The Reaping", a film that I did not exactly enjoy on my first date with the second most former girlfriend.

After enduring "Gothika", my fears of flashbacks to the worst times of my two years with Cindy Tanney (She stalked me online before, so she digs the name drop.) were put to the back burner. The Dark Castle logo just automatically left a bad taste in my mouth. It explained everything and I cannot say it helped to improve my opinion of another movie where Idris Elba cannot keep his accent in check.

But, to Dark Castle's credit, I initially wanted this episode to focus on letters P-T. Desperate to find a T-flick, I resigned to "Thir13een Ghosts" and was pleasantly surprised. If you are interested, email me if you want to chat about this production company's library for 40 minutes. Send your email to russthebus07@gmail.com.

NinetyForChill: The #Podcast - 2021 Top Ten - Bill & Ted vs. Jeff & Geena

 NinetyForChill.com: The #Podcast

Episode 50: Bill & Ted versus Jeff & Geena (Top Ten Discoveries of 2021)

Skimble may be changing into a fly. He already lacks an ear.

This past Christmas, ThePoeticCritic spent an hour with her little brother Cool Movies Darth to help comprise a list of NinetyForChill's best discoveries of 2021. Her movie research is not as narrow as this podcast's host, but she chooses five movies that will make the list. It is up to CM Darth to determine which five of the remaining 15 films will make for a well balanced countdown.

ThePoeticCritic did spend Christmas Eve and Day at her source of income, so she was not in a playful mood to try and draft a list. So instead of a "her pick, his pick" game, she offers some analyst of how her brother is choosing this list. The challenge for CM Darth becomes how not to offend previous guests by dismissing films they came to the show to praise.

It pained him, but there is a chance that "John Dies at the End" falls from number two to oblivion. My apologies Kodiak, but in a way, it seems fitting.

David Cronenberg's "The Fly", European, animated family feature "Nocturna", Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas", Robert Zemeckis's "The Polar Express" and the Hammer horror feature that started the modern take on classic monsters, "Dracula (aka Horror of Dracula)" are TPC's choices. These are the remaining features CM Darth has to choose from:

  1. Bill & Ted Face the Music
  2. You're Next
  3. Lady Snowblood
  4. John Dies at the End
  5. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
  6. Bit
  7. Castle Freak (1995)
  8. Death Race 2000
  9. Hellraiser
  10. Nighthawks
  11. Risky Business
  12. Rushmore
  13. Spiral: From the Book of Saw
  14. Teddy Bear
  15. Waiting for Guffman

And Ally's Accessories Shop on Etsy's Trash Features Revue offers a post recording variable. Does the gangster feature with Jena Malone and Joe Mantenga is supporting roles, "10 Cent Pistol", sneak into this top ten list. Does completing the computer alphabet (A to #) by featuring this flick catch CM Darth off guard?

As a struggling screenwriter, he is empathetic to actors JT Alexander and Damon Alexander along side writer Michael C. Martin putting everything on the line to get this feature made.

My Twitter account is @catbusruss. This is where I want your hate to be directed if you disapprove. Otherwise, positive feedback would be best displayed as subscriptions to my podcast and five-star reviews. Lets work that algorithm.

If you think you have a film or franchise that you are an expert on. Send an email to russthebus07@gmail.com. Most franchises have at least one feature that will qualify for NinetyForChill. The runtime just needs to be between 74 and 99 minutes. We have four episodes to fill.

I have been asking for weeks for assistance in composing an episode dedicated to vampire features like "The Lost Boys" trilogy, "Near Dark", and the "Underworld" movies. Here is to hoping that this bunch of critiques will stir up some inspiration in my audience to step up and hold off on the garlic. If this is a topic you up for discussing, feel free to send an email to russthebus07@gmail.com. All I need is a half hour on Zoom to get this done.

I hope I am impressing or at the very least amusing you with this podcast and I am open to any and all criticism. My biggest want is more guests and more suggestions on what to chat about (@catbusrussrussthebus07@gmail.com@coolmoviesdarth). If we can get 3 hours out of "Little Nicky", the possibilities are endless. Thanks for visiting.

After WrestleMania Backlash, I will tell you that we need to take zombie pro wrestling back. My suggestion is that we finally get my low-budget zombie movie, "Main Event of the Dead" off the ground. The script lacks a lumberjack match, so you know it has got to be better than the "Army of the Dead" advertisement. Ask for a treatment or give me suggestions on how to get it to a crowd-sourcing stage with an email to russthebus07@gmail.com.

Thanksgiving and #Movies to Distract from the #Racism

*This blog post was started on November 26, 2021.

I hope everyone has had a good Thank the Naive Natives for Giving their land to us holiday. This year, we had our first political argument, and I am proud to say, as the only uncle present (My brother-in-law supplied the only kids.), the instigator was not me. At least I hope that is how it is remembered. The parent I call to check in on may need to be the one who did not try to encourage Kyle Rittenhouse suing the president for defamation because he was accurately called a white supremacist. If the video showing him embracing Proud Boys was not shown on Fox News, it could not have happened, is their logic.

The last time that parent was called out for being racist, they took a week to collect their thoughts and come up with a story of why the other parent wanted to cut me off for standing my ground. If they remember Thanksgiving correctly, they will know it was my nastier younger sibling who lead the charge. I may have backed their facts, like the other parent would if their spouse was flailing despite a valid argument, but I had learned not to offer a counter proposal instead of leaving them feeling betrayed.

If anything, this should have inspired me to try and pursue money over happiness just so I shan't be afraid of pissing them off. That is the lesson or I just need to knock some girl up so I have a grandchild to hold as collateral. Either angle does not seem fun. Since I am staring down $15 an hour and a month to get at least one shag in this year, neither seems feasible.

I know the standard tale of the holiday season kick off is the uncle to start strife at the holidays, but how are you suppose to handle things when its the host being close minded? If you follow my blogs, I am thankful for that and I presume you know who I am talking about. If that is the most pressing memory, the "Due Date" review I inferred in "@WWERomanReign at Least Ranks Higher than Kyle Rittenhouse" that I would transcribe at some point would be posted, is not going to be this blog.

So what to write about this week? I did not mention professional wrestling till the last sentence. My ranking for that sport seems to be a little too fresh. I suppose I could just focus on women's wrestling, but the year is winding down. With that said, my immediate concern should be ranking the movies of "NinetyForChill.com - The #Podcast". There are still some movies I need to watch before this year ends, but when I am dealing with scores of movies too judge against each other, best to get this exercise started now.
